The Shan Hai Tian Hotel is located in the city of Sanya, on the south coast of Hainan Island in the South China Sea.  The shape of the site is triangular, with highlands and mountains to the west, and low, relatively flat terrain on the east end extending to the coastline. The project consisted of integrating a new guestroom tower into the existing hotel design and renovating the existing hotel exterior facades. The intent of the new design was to create a fresh identity for the hotel, with a focus on creating a holiday atmosphere through the formation of more intimate spaces and the creation of flowing indoor/outdoor areas.
