Blurring the Boundaries
For many resort projects, it is the lure of nature and the guest's desire to reconnect with the natural environment that is the draw. For this type of project in a natural setting, creating a relationship with nature becomes of utmost importance in meeting the needs of the guests. The architecture must establish a mutually harmonious connection with the environment, and this connection must be evident to the guest. In effect, the architecture can be the starting point from which the guest communes with nature. This can be established by challenging common conceptions about space and blurring the boundaries between the architecture and the environment, the manufactured and the natural, the interior and the exterior. Interior spaces can be opened up, designed to mimic the exterior and to bring the outdoors in. Exterior spaces can be more acutely defined and flow seamlessly from the interior. Spaces can be created that are neither interior nor exterior, but a unique combination of architecture and nature.
